Watts Towers, the most amazing confection of concrete, glass, mosaic and whimsy, that soars 10 stories into the sky, was built by an Italian immigrant named Sam Rodia. He worked as a tile setter, and starting at the age of 42, spent 34 years building and decorating the Towers in the yard outside the small house where he lived alone. Sam carried his artifacts and cement in one hand - bucket by bucket- as he climbed with his other hand the steel armatures he’d made from cast-off scraps of wire and steel. When Rodia finished, he named his work Nuestro Pueblo, which means Our Village in Italian.

Working with a variety of refuse materials such as rusted kitchen pans, typewriter keys, car lights and other scrap metals, Edouard Martinet sculpts several types of animals and insects. His sculptures are made without the use of solder.
