Anonymous asked: Do you have any tips or photos for upcycled radio cabinets

As a matter of fact, I’m repurposing two old turntable cabinets. Modifying these can be tricky.

First thing you’ll want to do is carefully dismantle the “guts”. Instead of throwing all those old electronics away, do a quick search and see if there’s someone in your town that refurbishes vintage stereos. They’ll gladly take the parts, some will even pay you for them depending on the make/model.

Once you’ve got it gutted, plan how you’re going to refinish the areas where speakers and turntable once were. I usually remove the speaker fabric and put a shelf or wine cubby in.

Many cabinets were veneered and can begin split and peel. Depending on how much effort you want to put into it, I recommend a sanding, then fill in any missing areas with Plastic Wood, another sanding, prime and paint.

Good luck! Can’t wait to see your before/after photos.
